Role

Tooling Designer (Mechanical Tooling Design Engineer)

Derby – 4 or 5 days per week in the office, potentially 1 day per week from home

Inside IR35 or permanent staff role

Nuclear sector – open to experience from other highly regulated sectors

A Tooling Designer is required to work for a large Nuclear company based in Derby on either an inside IR35 contract basis or a permanent staff basis.

This role will be ideal for a candidate with experience in either the Nuclear sector or other highly regulated sectors such as Aerospace/ Defence

Flexibility will be provided with the software experience

Role purpose

Your will be joining an Embedded Team as a Tooling Design Engineer / Senior Mechanical Designer.  As the Tooling Designer, you will be responsible for performing full lifecycle engineering activities across a range of engineering projects which will form part of the submarine’s new build and development programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing tooling, jigs fixtures and components that meet customer requirements
  • Produce outline design
  • As the Tooling Designer, you will identify, formulate, and produce solutions to emerging problems
  • Evaluate final product’s overall performance, reliability, and safety
  • Alter and modify design to meet requirements customer requirements
  • As the Tooling Designer, you will estimate budget and scope of project
  • Management of Risk and Opportunity
  • Prepare product reports and documentation
  • As the Tooling Designer, you will engage in lifelong learning and develop new theories or methods

Qualifications

  • Experience in similar roles with specific emphasis (but not limited to) Valves, Pressure Vessel, Structural, Tooling or Lifting Equipment Design.
  • As the Tooling Designer, you will have proven working experience in mechanical engineering
  • Understanding of relevant design codes and safety legislation
  • Ability to define budgets/work programmes for complete design project lifecycles e.g., requirements capture, concept design and detailed design.
  • knowledge of materials
  • As the Tooling Designer, you will have familiarity with 3D CAD systems (Siemens NX or similar)
  • Familiarity with PLM systems (Teamcentre or similar)
